October is the Cruelest Month

A reasonable alternative to the omnipresent pink ribbon. Why not put this on your sassy scarves and cotton candy colored stand mixers?

It's Breast Cancer Awareness month, complete with beribboned water bottles, lipsticks, vacuum cleaners, ankle socks, cupcakes, underwear, teapots and cell phone accessories.

I've already talked about it. You know how I feel. My post from last year pretty much says it all.

Personally, I have also always been disgusted by this kind of corporate marketing tie in. If they REALLY wanted to be a good "corporate citizen" they'd just donate their money with one of those giant checks and be done with it.

One of the ones that really galls me is Yoplait. They "donate" for every lid turned into them "up to" some dollar figure. They should just donate what they are going to donate, and encourage others to donate what they can (and not have people waste money mailing yogurt lids across the country).

It's as if I told them "for every thousand dollars you give me I'll donate $200 to a charity (oh, and by-the-way, I'll be the one taking the tax break).

We stopped buying Yoplait products since they started this promotion a couple years ago. Why should anyone have their donations filtered and skimmed by a for-profit Company when I can just give directly and both feel better for it and do more good.

I completely agree with you re: Yoplait. I find the whole campaign offensive, not to mention just plain GROSS, and a real waste of resources.
